Quatre pieces breves, originally titled "Four Short Pieces," was named in honor of the great pieces of the same name by the great composer Frank Martin. While these pieces are not technically 12-tone pieces they are influenced in many places by the technique.

III. Watlz is at times almost a waltz but really spends most of its time trying to make you think it might be a waltz. It's dissonant, brooding, flowing, and strange.
